Retirement of first councillors.

(4) For the purposes of the first election of councillors,

the returning officer may, if it appears to him necessary,

divide the humicipality and any electoral division or ward

thereof into polling districts, and he shall settle and give such

notice as he may deem necessary of the places at which the poll

for the Municipality, or the electoral divisions or wards, or

any polling districts thereof, shall be taken.

(5) The returning officer shall send to the Colonial

Secretary the names of the persons elected and shall send to

each person elected a councillor notice of his election.

158. (1) The councillors elected at the first election

and the councillors who are the first nominated councillors

shall retire from office on the

day of

fourth year after the first election and their places

shall be filled by election or nomination, as the case may be.

(2) In this section the word "year" shall be construed to

mean calendar year.

First Meeting of the Council.

159. The first meeting of the Council shall be held on

such date as the Governor shall notify by Proclamation and the

Colonial Secretary shall send to each person elected or nominated

a councillor a summons to attend such first meeting at such time

and plice as the Governor may fix.

General Provisions as to First Election.

Any casual vacancy arising at the first election from

a failure of election or otherwise may be filled in like manner

as a casual vacancy in the Council may be filled and the person

appointed to act as returning officer at the first election, or

such other officer as the Governor may appoint for that purpose,

shall be the returning officer at any election held to fill a

casual vacancy before the Council shall have appointed a

returning officer and a clerk of the Council.

of councillors all acts, things or notices required to be done or
